Prescot Cables Football Club is celebrating promotion to the Premier Division of the Northern Premier League. The club, which traces its history back to 1884 as detailed in our book A Football Club in Prescotdefeated City of Liverpool by two goals to nil in front of almost 2,100 spectators at Hope Street in the Northern Premier League West Division Play-Off Final.

Glyn Williams is a lifelong Cables fan and other members of the Glyn Williams Books team have become involved with the club, who finished third in their division to qualify for the season-ending Play-Offs. In the semi-final, Prescot defeated Bootle 1-0 after extra time to set up a decider against the recently-formed City of Liverpool.

The visitors were reduced to ten min after 37 minutes, then Prescot took the lead in first half stoppage time thanks to a goal from Alex McNally. In the 65th minute, the prolific John Murphy added a second goal for the home team. There were emotional celebrations at the final whistle but, of course, a club with such a long history has enjoyed moments of joy before, some of which are discussed in A Football Club in Prescot, which is available at Amazon.
